Upcoming iPhone 16 Series: Major Upgrades in Size, Chips, and Memory Revealed

As everyone knows, iPhone’s new product launch events have been quite boring in recent years, whether it’s the iPhone 14 series or the iPhone 15 series, there hasn’t been anything particularly impressive. The upgrades in the iPhone 15 Pro series are mainly in imaging capabilities, which for most ordinary users, don’t hold much significance. This has led to price reductions for the iPhone 15 series just a few months after their release, indicating their market situation.

But Apple is still Apple, and despite the somewhat mundane configurations of the iPhone, it continues to attract high levels of attention. Recently, news about the iPhone 16 series has begun to emerge continuously. Although the launch event for the iPhone 16 series is still a long way off, in terms of specifications and appearance, the iPhone 16 has already been finalized at this point, so the credibility of this exposure information is very high.

Firstly, there’s the size of the device. The screen sizes of the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max have both been increased. Previously, the Pro version of the iPhone had a 6.1-inch screen, while the Pro Max had a 6.7-inch screen. However, the screen size of the iPhone 16 Pro will be upgraded from 6.1 inches to 6.3 inches, and the larger Pro Max will go from 6.7 inches to an even larger 6.9 inches. It’s evident that Apple, which has always emphasized smaller screen sizes, is gradually moving towards larger screens, which might be disappointing for users who prefer smaller screens.

In addition to changes in screen size, the arrangement of screens on the iPhone 16 and Plus versions will also shift from diagonal to vertical. The main purpose is to enable the shooting of spatial videos, especially since Apple’s VisionPro has already been released, and the promotion of spatial video is one of Apple’s major goals.

Secondly, there’s the perennial topic of chips. Starting from the iPhone 14 series, the standard version of the iPhone has consistently used the previous generation of chips. However, this year’s iPhone 16 standard version and iPhone 16 Plus will revert to the previous configuration, using the latest A18 chip, while the Pro version will use the A18Pro chip. Both chips will be built using 3nm process technology, and will enhance the chips’ AI capabilities.

Many speculate that the reason Apple is reverting to using new chips in the standard version of the iPhone this time is mainly due to Huawei’s return. After all, Huawei’s return to the high-end market will inevitably lead to a decrease in the competitiveness of the standard version of the iPhone. Using new chips can also enhance the competitiveness of the standard version of the iPhone to a certain extent.

Apart from chips and size, another upgrade point for the iPhone 16 series is memory. Starting from the iPhone 16 series, Apple will completely abandon the 6GB RAM size and upgrade the overall memory to 8GB of RAM. This is definitely a major upgrade for Apple. Although the iOS system and Android’s memory mechanism are different, with the improvement of iPhone’s imaging capabilities in recent years, the required RAM space has gradually increased. So, upgrading to 8GB RAM across the board is definitely a good thing in terms of performance improvement.
